A Descriptive Study on Burnout Experience


Abstract
This study was with a view to describing burn-out experiences according to work part, motives of choosing nursing discipline, expected work period on nursing, and the style of head nurse leadership which were correlated with burn-out experience statistically in the previous study, and was with a view to giving a feedback to the previous study, and to serving a base-line data to prevent and to treat burn-out. 217 cases were analyzed by descriptive statistics, were collected at Chungnam National university Hospital, Chunguam SeungMo Hospital, and Taejeon Eul-Ji Hospital at the period of July 29 to August 5, 1985. The findings were as follows.
1. The degree of burn out experience according to work parts were high in order of I.C.U., medicine, surgery, operating room, pediatrics, gynecology, and emergency room
2. The degree of burn-out experience of those who have chosen nursing was high in those who have strong motivation to achievement in perspectives of McClelland theory.
3. The degree of burn-out experience was high in those who have negative attitudes on long period of working as a nurse.
4. The degree of burn-out experience was high in ineffective leadership, but was low in effective leadership.
